Importing Gutenberg Pages, Patterns, and Wireframes

Importing Gutenberg Pages, Patterns, and Wireframes

Starter Templates are built for different page builders (Elementor and Beaver Builder), including the WordPress default Block editor (Gutenberg). With Gutenberg Starter Templates, you can also import single pages and pre-designed elements (Patterns) directly inside the block editor. In addition, you have the option to create your page or website mockup directly on your website with Wireframe Blocks.

This document will show you how to import templates directly into your Block editor. This option allows you to build websites much faster and easier than before.

How to Import Starter Templates From Block Editor?

In addition to importing templates as a complete site or single page, the Gutenberg Starter Templates also come with Patterns. Gutenberg Patterns are attractive editable sections like a call to action, FAQ, features, portfolio, services, team, and so on.

Next to Patterns, Gutenberg Starter Templates provide wireframing templates too. Wireframing means creating a basic structure of your webpage like some sections, their layout, image position, text position, and so on. You can import ready-to-use wireframe blocks to the Gutenberg editor and create your page or post mockups.

To start importing Gutenberg Starter Templates, you only need to install and activate Starter Templates or Premium Starter Templates plugins. Afterward, you can easily import Gutenberg pages and patterns with a few clicks.

Importing Process

Once you』re ready, you can follow the steps below:

Step 1 – Navigate to Dashboard > Pages > Add New. In the top menu of the page editor, click on the 「Starter Templates」 button. This will open the Gutenberg Starter Templates Library;

Step 2 – In the top menu of the Library, you will see the 「Pages「, 「Patterns「, and 「Wireframes」 tabs. Select the one you wish to import.

Step 3 – Next, you can browse the templates and select the one you wish to import:

Import Page Template: Click on the Starter Template you like to preview the available pages. Select the page template you wish to import and click on the import button;

Import Pattern / Wireframes:  Filter blocks by color and category. Once you find the block you need, hover over it, and click on the 「Import」 button;

Step 4 – Once you import page template, pattern, or wireframe blocks, you can edit them as needed;

Step 5 – You can repeat steps 2, 3, and 4 as many times as needed. Finally, when you are satisfied with your page or post design (or mockup), click the 「Publish」 button.

Plugins and Customizer

After importing any Gutenberg Starter Template, you might notice that some colors or typography look differently than in the Library. This difference is happening because your customizer settings are automatically inherited by templates.

For example, let』s say you』ve set the yellow background color for buttons in the customizer. At the same time, the page template you want to import has a button with green background in the Library. After importing the page, a customizer setting (i.e., yellow background color) will be applied to the button. As a result, the button background will be yellow instead of the green you saw on the demo.

Similarly, typography will be inherited from the customizer. All headings and content will have typography set from the customizer.

Further, templates might look different if there is a required plugin missing. When importing individual templates and blocks, plugins will not be automatically installed and activated. Here, you would have to install and activate these plugins manually so your templates would look as intended.

How Do License Upgrades Work?

How Do License Upgrades Work?

This article explains how license upgrades work.

Lifetime to Lifetime Upgrades:

Customers need to pay only the difference amount.Example – If a user wants to upgrade from Astra Pro ($249 / Lifetime) to Astra Growth Bundle ($699 / Lifetime), he will have to pay only $450 ($699 – $249)

Annual to Lifetime Upgrades:

Customers need to pay only the difference amount (provided they have an active annual license)Example – If a user wants to upgrade from Astra Pro ($59 / Year) to Astra Pro ($249 / Lifetime), he will have to pay only $190 ($249 – $59)

Annual to Annual Upgrades:

In case if you upgrade to annual license, the original date of license expiry is considered, regardless of the date of upgrade. The amount you will be charged will be based on the price difference and the time left in your current subscription before renewal. This means that you will have to pay a complete annual fee in case your earlier license has expired.

Example – A customer purchased an annual license for Astra Pro ($59 / Year) on January 1, 2017. On July 1, 2017, the customer upgrades his license to Astra Growth Bundle ($249 / Year). The price difference is $190 and there are 6 months left in his current subscription period. The customer will pay $95 to upgrade. On January 1, 2018, the subscription will renew and the customer will pay the license renewal amount and own an active license key until January 1, 2019.

The expiration date of the license will not change; an upgraded license will still expire on the original expiration date whether prorated or not.

Note: Above upgrade process will be applied to all Astra packages i.e. ASTRA PRO, Essential Bundle, and Growth Bundle.

Starter Templates Importing

Starter Templates Importing

Starter Templates Importing is a pretty straightforward process. All templates come with needed plugins and settings, giving you an exact look like the one in our Library. Naturally, you can adjust settings and add, modify or remove any imported content as you wish.

Furthermore, you can decide to import a complete website template, individual pages or add pre-designed elements to your designs.

This document will explain mentioned template options and show you how to import Starter Template to your website.

Starter Templates Plugin Basics

Once you install and activate your theme and Starter Templates plugin, you can access the Starter Templates Library. It』s a starting place where you can browse all available templates.  Thus, navigate to Dashboard > Appearance > Starter Templates to start. Further below, we covered the main Library functions:

Select your Page Builder: in the upper right corner of the Library, you will find a Page Builder selector. Here, you can choose your preferred Page Builder, and the Templates library will be adjusted accordingly;

Sync Library: On the left, next to the page builder selector, you will find the 「Sync Library」 button. You will use these feature to sync your website Library with our server and refresh templates;

My favorite: Next to the Sync button, you can find the 「My Favorite」 option. Here, you』ll find all the templates you marked as favorite in the Library. You can mark any template as a favorite by clicking a heart-shaped icon at the bottom of the template cover;

Search Bar: In the middle of the Library』s top part, you will see a search bar. You can type the keywords to search templates by thier titles;

Filtering Options: You will find additional filtering options under the search bar. You can filter templates by category, separate premium templates, and sort them by popularity or publishing date.

Still, if you don』t wish to search and filter templates, you can scroll down and browse the Library that way.

Note:

Since Starter Template version 3.0.0 the importing process and Starter Templates UI were modified. If you』re using the older version of the Starter Templates plugin (free or Premium), your importing process will be different from the process described in this document.

Browsing Templates

Browse Templates: Each template in the library is represented with the cover picture. Once you find a template you like, just click on its cover picture to preview template.

Template Preview & Styling: When you click on any template, this will open a template live preview and styling options. Here, you can click on any template page and check them out. Further, you will have styling options where you can add your logo, choose the color palette and fonts.

What Happens When I Import a Starter Template?

The Starter Templates are built as fully functional websites. This means the Starter Templates importing process covers all steps needed for your website to look exactly like our demos.

After the import, the only thing left is to update the content (texts, logo, images) with your own. Now, your website is ready. Further down, we』ll show you the main differences between importing the whole website template and importing individual templates.

Importing a Complete Site Template

Once you click on any template in the Starter Template library, you can preview and style a template. Further, if you decided on the template and style, you can start the import process.

The Starter Templates importing process will do the following:

Install a Page Builder depending on your selection. For example, let』s say you select a template for Elementor. As a result, our plugin will install and activate the Elementor builder plugin as part of the import process;

Depending on the template, some additional plugins will be installed and activated. These can include plugins like WooCommerce, WPForms Lite, etc.

Further, some premium plugins could be installed, like Ultimate Addons for Elementor (UAE) or Ultimate Addons for Beaver Builder (UABB). These plugins are installed only when you import Elementor or Beaver Builder Premium templates;

Note

When you import Premium templates containing the UAE or UABB, the plugins will be activated and fully operational. At the same time, UAE or UABB license will not be automatically activated. Thus, you would also need to activate the license to receive future updates. Your license keys are available in Brainstorm Force Store, at Account > Licenses.

Import all customizer settings, including layout, colors, fonts, etc. automatically;

Add options you selected in the Preview and Styling steps (Logo, Colors, Fonts);

Add all pages and dummy posts;

Import the header, footer, menus, and dummy content also;

As mentioned, some templates are intended to work with plugins like WooCommerce or LearnDash. When you import these templates, the importing process will also add dummy content for these plugins (products, courses, etc.).

In addition, If you previously imported any Starter template, you can remove it altogether when importing a new one. To do this, check the 「Delete Previously Imported Site」 box when you start the import process. This option can also be located under the 「Advanced Options」 dropdown menu on the importing popup.

Keep in mind that importing process will only delete the content and settings added by the previously imported template. It will not remove any content you created yourself.

Any posts, pages, custom post types, etc., you added will still be present on your website. If you want to remove these, you have to do it manually.

Additionally, importing options allow you to select which elements of the template import can be omitted. For instance, you can select not to import the Customizer settings or dummy content.

You can find more details on this topic in the next Walktrough article about importing the complete site template (Free or Premium).

Importing a Single Page Starter Template

If you decide to import only an individual page (template), the import process will include only the following:

Install a Page Builder depending on your selection;

Add the single page template as a draft;

Import dummy content only for the single page template.

Depending on your customizer settings, the page might look different compared to our demos.

Also, some pages contain dynamic data which will not be imported in this case. Suppose you are using templates intended to work with plugins like WooCommerce or LearnDash. Here, the import process will add the design and dynamic elements (widgets, modules) but not the dynamic data (WooCommerce products, LearnDash courses, etc.).

Therefore, you will need to install and activate these plugins manually and add dynamic content yourself.

You can find more details on this topic in the article about importing single pages.

Note:

Since Starter Template version 3.0.0 you will not be able to import single-page templates for the Beaver Builder. We temporarily disabled this option.

Importing the Pre-designed Elements

Importing the pre-designed elements is only available with Elementor (Blocks) and Gutenberg (Patterns) builders.

You can import the block/pattern to your page, post, or other parts of your website that can be edited with the builder. The template will be added to your design as an individual element.

In this case, you will need to have all related (needed) plugins already installed. Also, to use this option, you』ll need to create the page or post by yourself.

You can find more details on this topic in articles about importing Elementor Blocks and Gutenberg Patterns.

How To Reset WordPress Installation?

How To Reset WordPress Installation?

Creating a new website can be a lengthy process, especially if you need to do some design and plugin testing. Also, if you might have decided to import several Starter Templates on your website to check them out. You probably noticed that pages, posts, media files, etc., can quite pile up this way.

Cleaning up your website manually will take some time, and there is always the possibility that you might miss something.

Hence, in this document, we will show you how to speed things up by resetting your website to defaults. We will be showing you how to reset your WordPress installation using the following plugin:

Advanced WordPress Reset

Alternatively, you can also use a plugin called WP Reset.

Install Advanced WordPress Reset

We will start by installing the plugin:

Step 1 – Log in to your website and navigate to Dashboard > Plugins > Add New;

Step 2 – Search for 「wp reset」 in the search bar on the top right side of the screen;

Step 3 – Install and activate the plugin.

Reset Your Website

Before you reset your website, it is essential to understand that the process will reset your WordPress Database back to its original status irreversibly. That means it will permanently remove all of your content (pages, posts, custom post types, comments, media, users, etc.) and customizations.

Thus, we suggest you backup your website before reset if you want to preserve any content. If you』re not sure how to do this, check out our document on how to backup your website.

Also, the theme and all plugins will be deactivated. On the other hand, the reset process won』t remove nor modify your WordPress, themes and plugins files.

The reset process will also recreate the admin user (with the same credentials) used to initiate the reset so that you can access your website afterward.

To reset your website, follow these steps:

Step 1 – Log in to your website and navigate to Dashboard > Tools > Advanced WP Reset;

Step 2 – In the 「Reset Database」 confirmation field, type in the word 「reset」 and click on the 「Reset Database」 button;

Step 3 – You will be asked to confirm once again. If you』re ready to proceed, click 「Continue」. This will initiate the restart process;

Step 4 – Once the process is done, you will be notified and sent to the login page to log in back to your website.

Check Your Website

Once you log in again to your website, you』ll see that all of your content has been removed. If you check your plugins and themes, as mentioned, you will see that they are all still installed but deactivated. You can remove any theme or plugin you don』t need and start building your new website from scratch.

If you haven』t tried importing our Starter Templates by now, check them out as they can help you create your websites in no time. You can find out more in these documents:

How to Import Single Page With Starter Templates?

Similar to importing a complete website, you can import single-page templates with the Starter Templates plugin. There are page templates for home, about, services, blog, contact, and many other page types. Thus, the Starter Templates library offers you a large number of templates with a distinct color scheme, designs, and layouts. You can mix and match single pages from different templates to create your unique website design.

This document will show you how to import single pages and how to combine them successfully.

Importing Single Page Templates

To import templates, you must first install and activate your Starter Template plugin. You can choose to install the free plugin or the premium one.

Both plugins will enable you to import the free templates. But to import Premium templates, you will need the Premium Starter Templates plugin, which you can download from our Store. You also need to activate the Premium Starter Templates license once the plugin is installed and activated.

You can find more details on installing the Starter Templates plugin in the Getting Started with Starter Templates article.

Page Template Importing Process

Once the required plugin is activated, you can start importing templates. The process for importing both free and premium page templates is the same.

Note:

Since Starter Template version 3.0.0 the importing process and Starter Templates UI were modified. If you』re using the older version of the Starter Templates plugin (free or Premium), your importing process will be different from the process described in this document.

You can import single-page templates to your page or post. To do this, you need to access Gutenberg or Elementor editor:

Step 1 – Navigate to your Post or Page and access the editor to access the Elementor or Gutenberg Templates Library.

Step 2 – You can import Gutenberg templates by clicking on the Starter Templates button in the editor:

Alternatively, if you want to import Elementor templates, you can import them by starting your Elementor editor. Here, click on the Starter Templates icon.

Note:

Since Starter Template version 3.0.0 you will not be able to import single-page templates for the Beaver Builder. We temporarily disabled this option.

Step 3 – Browse through the library to find the template you need. Next, click on it to display all single-page templates;

Note:

If you see the 「Get Access!」 button instead, it means that you are trying to import Premium templates using the free Starter Templates plugin. Also, this could mean that you didn』t activate your Premium Starter Templates License.

Step 4 – You can check out available page templates, select one, and click on the 「Import Template」 button;

Step 5 – If you don』t have the required plugins installed, you will see a notification that the page dynamic content will not be added. You can continue the import process, but the required plugins won』t be installed nor activated automatically. Thus, you will have to install and activate those plugins yourself.

Still, we suggest you install these plugins before you import a template;

Step 6 – Once the import process is completed, you can view the imported single page automatically as 「Draft」. You can further edit and publish the page from the page list (Dashboard > Pages).

Also, you can find more information on importing single-page templates in our following Walkthrough docs for Gutenberg and Elementor.

Note:

Keep in mind that your Customizer settings will not change when you import a single page template. As a result, the imported page design will inherit typography, color, layout, and button styling from your current theme customizer. Thus, the page design might look different than the demo page template in the Starter Templates library.

The 「Get Access!」 Button – Importing Premium Template

While trying to import the premium templates, you might have seen the 「Get Access」 button instead of the importing options. This means that something is missing in your setup.

Firstly, as you know, these templates require a Premium Starter Templates plugin to be installed and activated. When using the free Starter Template plugin, the 「Get Access」 button will redirect you to our sales page. There, you can buy one of our Bundles which come with Premium Starter Templates included.

Secondly, if you installed and activated the Premium Starter Templates plugin there is one more step to do. Now, you also need to activate your Premium Starter Templates plugin license to import Premium templates. If you haven』t done this, you will again see the 「Get Access」 button on your Premium templates.

Hence, this is what you can do to activate your plugin license:

Step 1 – If you see the 「Get Access!」 button when you try to import a Premium template (on Step 3 of importing process), go ahead and click on it;

Step 2 – Next, you will see an activation popup. Click the 「Activate License」 button to activate your Premium Starter Templates plugin license. You can copy the license key from your store account and paste it into the popup input field.

Step 3 – Once the license is activated, continue the import process from Step 3.

Note:

Although we try to use stock and non-copyrighted images on all of our Starter Sites/templates, we cannot take legal responsibility for any claims. We highly recommend replacing the images after importing.

Build Your Footer

Build Your Footer

Similar to the Header, the Footer is a section shown across all (or almost all) pages and posts on your posts. The main difference is that the Footer is located at the bottom of your website. Thus, contrary to Header, the Footer is often the area that website visitors see the last. It』s not rare that people miss the opportunity to build a good footer, but this can really make a difference with keeping users on your website as well as with conversions, subscriptions, etc.

This is the place where your visitors expect to find some key information like company details, contact information, social media links, or some additional or related content and links.

This is often a great place to add your links to other offerings you might have or put the most important links and call to action buttons to avoid the need of scrolling back to the top.

Here again, the Astra theme comes with a drag & drop Footer Builder allowing you to build your footer equally easy as your header.

General and Design tabs

General tab is your default view when opening the Footer Builder. Here you have an overview of your footer setup.

On a left side menu, all of your active footer elements will be listed.

Rest of the screen is showing a live preview of your footer and the position of your elements across footer sections in your Visual Footer Builder.

Design tab gives you options of setting the Background Color & Image for the whole footer, as well as adding Padding and Margin.

Visual Footer Builder

Same as with Header, the Visual Footer Builder consists of three separate sections too.

These three Footer sections are:

Primary Footer  – the middle section; this is your main footer section.

Above Footer – the upper section; often this is the place to add your subscription form or call to action buttons

Below Footer – the lower section; usually Copyright information and come contact or company information are placed here (like address, phone number/e-mail, company registration number etc.)

As with the header sections, each footer section customizations are accessed by clicking on the 「cog」 icon on the left side of the sections.

Each section has two tabs:

General tab – Footer

Column – select the number of columns you want to add to this footer section;

Layout – choose the column layout based on the selected number of columns;

Inner Elements Layout – display widgets in the same column Stacked (on top of each other) or Inline (next to each other)

Width – set the footer content width to Full Width (edge to edge) or to Content Width

Height – set height of this footer section.

Vertical Alignment – vertically align element content across all the columns within this footer section to Top, Middle or Bottom of the section.

Hide on Mobile – hide this header on mobile devices.

Design tab – Footer

Top Border Size (& Color) – add the top border to the footer section by setting the size of your border.

Border Color – Once you set your border size, an additional option will appear (Border Color) for choosing the color of the border;

Background – set this footer background color;

Inner Column Spacing – add space within each column;

Padding – add padding on one or more sides of the footer;

Margin – add a margin on one or more sides of the header.

Each footer section can be customized separately for desktop and mobile. You can add different footer elements or change their positions for each viewport.

Footer Elements

You can build your footer the same way as your header. Compared to Header Builder, the Footer Builder offers a somewhat smaller number of elements. You will be able to add the following elements to your footer sections: Footer Menu, Social, HTML, Widget, and Copyright.

Further down, we will show you how to use elements specifically available for the footer and a few of those used also for headers but with slightly different settings. The Rest of the elements are used the same way as with Header Builder.

Primary Menu

Here, you will see the menu items you added to your Footer Menu (Dashboard > Appearance > Menus).

In the General tab you can set the menu Layout to Inline or Stack and set the menu items Alignment.

The Design tab will allow you to set the Text and Background colors, Menu Font Size, Menu Spacing and Margin.

Social (Footer)

Compared to the Social element used for header, the footer Social element has the additional Alignment option in the General tab

Copyright

This element allows you to simply add and style your Copyright and it can be used only within the Footer. You can use the following shortcodes here:

[copyright] 2021 [site_title] [theme_author]
